NewsDean's Award for Excellence in Postgraduate Research 2009Congratulations to Raúl Zimmerman who is the overall winner of the Dean's Award for Excellence in Postgraduate Research 2009. Raúl, originally from Argentina, joined the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering in 2007 after studying and working in Israel. He is working under the supervision of Dr Gary Rosengarten on a novel method to produce hydrogen from methanol utilising solar thermal energy. His research shows how this technology will increase the efficiency of portable power supplies and can also be used to produce highly efficient solar thermal electricity production for the domestic/commercial market. The Dean's Award was established in 2005 to recognise outstanding research in engineering and applied sciences being conducted by postgraduate research students in the Faculty. In the research theme 'Resources & Infrastructure For The Future', Raúl gave a presentation on his research on "A Micro-Solar Collector for Portable Hydrogen Production". |
