PhD scholarship in Clean Engine Technologies

Current @ 24 September 2009

Interested in developing the next generation of clean engine technologies? The new Engine Research Group at UNSW is seeking to attract high-achieving final year students expecting to achieve first-class honours as APA PhD studentship applicants.

The challenges of climate change, increasing petroleum fuel prices, and health impacts of automotive emissions presents an urgent need to develop clean and efficient engine technology. The projects would meet this need by the science-based application of advanced optical-diagnostic experimental techniques and/or state-of-the-art computational modelling to understand and to optimise the in-cylinder processes of spray vaporisation, turbulent fluid dynamics, and combustion. Focus areas include combustion of alternative fuels (e.g. biofuels, GTL fuels, DME) or the development of advanced engine concepts including Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) or Low Temperature Combustion (LTC) Diesel.
