Programs Offered for Undergraduate Study

Five standard four-year plans are available:

They all start with the same first two years, and no decision regarding the specialisation that you plan to follow is required until the end of year 2.

With the new Faculty of Engineering Flexible First Year, it is possible to change from programs in other UNSW engineering schools up to the end of year 1. However, progress is simpler if you follow the recommended program.

Degree programs may be started mid-year in many cases.

Each of our five plans may be combined with Science or Arts to give a five-year double degree, or with Commerce to give a five-and-a-half year double degree.

The Mechanical Engineering degree and the Mechatronic Engineering degree may also be combined with a Master of Biomedical Engineering degree to give a 5 year combined degree.

Availability
Bachelor of Engineering / Bachelor of Science      All plans
Bachelor of Engineering / Bachelor of Arts      All plans
Bachelor of Engineering / Bachelor of Commerce      Manufacturing, Mechanical and Mechatronics plans
Bachelor of Engineering / Master of Biomedical Engineering      Mechanical and Mechatronic plans

The first two years of all of the standard five plans are the same and involve basic science, mathematics, engineering and design concepts, visualisation and analysis courses.

With these degrees, graduates of the School have a reputation for combining excellent fundamental knowledge of engineering with practical relevance to industry. The range of degrees allows a great deal of flexibility in the choice of career and the relevant industry. While most graduates start their careers at a technical level, surveys have shown that a high proportion progress to management roles. Senior executives in many industries are graduates from this School.

A brief outline highlighting the most significant aspects of each plan is included below, as well as Basic Plan charts.
