Postgraduate Coursework Projects
On approval of the specialisation authority, up to 12 UoC of a project may be undertaken in the Master program, if the student has achieved a credit average in other completed courses. For the current listing of research interests of the academic staff, please refer to the document Topics for MEngSc Projects & ME/PhD Theses 2008 which may be used as a guide for finding a topic and a supervisor. Students are urged to approach any member of staff who they feel would be interested in supervising a project of mutual interest. It is important that a decision on the topic be made as early as possible in the program so that all relevant coursework may be undertaken prior to commencing project work. Students must advise the Postgraduate Coursework Administrator of their intention to undertake project work as early as possible in their enrolment. Students enrolled in the Master Extension program must complete project work of between 12 and 24 UoC. A project involves an independent investigation at an advanced level by the student and may include research, design, feasibility or other analysis requiring integration of knowledge and evaluation across a range of topics in the area of specialisation. Work-based projects are encouraged for practising engineers provided they meet the requirements of advanced independent study. Work-based projects must be approved by the program specialisation prior to commencement of the project. |
